Inbreeding depression: Inbreeding depression is the reduced biological fitness that occurs when closely related individuals breed with each other. Inbreeding increases the chance that offspring inherit two copies of harmful (deleterious) mutations. This can lower survival and reproduction rates, reduce fertility, and is linked with higher susceptibility to new diseases or environmental stress.
